Originally located in Hollywood, Cirrus Gallery & Cirrus Editions Ltd. was founded in 1970 as a gallery and publisher/workshop, exhibiting painting, sculpture, performance, video, and new media while maintaining a longstanding commitment to California-based artists. In 1979, Cirrus moved to downtown Los Angeles and has remained there for the past 36 years. With a number of galleries following suit, its presence in downtown shaped the area’s strong identity as a cultural center. In February of 2015, further downtown redevelopment saw the gallery move a few blocks away for only its second time. Cirrus continues to focus on increasing the visibility of LA artists through publishing and gallery exhibition, presenting LA artists on the international stage through international art fairs.
