MFA Book Arts + Printmaking Program, The University of the Arts

Philadelphia, PA

The MFA Book Arts + Printmaking Program at The University of the Arts is a highly selective professional graduate program that imparts a tradition of artistic and academic excellence through a distinctive pedagogical lens. The unparalleled program offers students a profound conceptual and technical experience as presented through an intense, interactive and rigorous studio environment. The breadth and depth of possibilities exploring the art of the book in union with printmaking are enormous and complex. The program encourages students to cultivate a hybrid methodology among the disciplines of printmaking, papermaking, bookbinding and letterpress printing—— exploring text as well as image, the temporal as well as the spatial, the three-dimensional as well as the two-dimensional and the traditional as well as the experimental.

The two year, 60-credit program is one of the most established and prominent professional programs in the country. Dedicated to educating students in the fields of book arts and printmaking, it is currently one of few programs providing a dual Master’s degree in both disciplines. Substantial scholarships as well as assistantships and workstudy positions are awarded. The Presidential Fellowship, a highly competitive award, offers a full tuition scholarship for the full two-year program.
